My name is Ben Dooley and I'm in the Chicago region and I've been coaching for 7 ½ years now.

0:06 Who is your ideal client?
Sure, there are typical clients that are up to big things, who are wanting to create massive changes, and take on exciting new territories in their lives, change their communities. I think most coaches are attracted by that. I also really love coaches who know how to be playful and fun and energetic and engaging. Or at least know how to connect with that. Because that's where most of our creativity gets to be connected to and accessed. Again, the ideal client, not so much of what they're doing but more of that they are open to this learning phase that whatever has been experienced, be it success, failure, an obstacle, there's something we can grab onto and use to make stronger.

0:56 What is coaching?
Coaching is creating the awareness of our habits and our fears, our passions, our desires. And it's really opening up our awareness to create new beliefs of who we are and what we deserve and what we can do, which then encourages new actions, which then encourages new results. Because most often we are stuck getting the same results doing the same actions which we're getting from the same beliefs and we keep in that cycle. Coaching is the way to transform that.

1:35 What should I look for in a coach?
Check out at least 3 to 5 coaches. If you have a good connection with your coach and you relate to them and you speak the same language, and they get you, you feel more safe. You feel more encouraged and engaged to step into those ookie uncomfortable areas we want to go because that's where we're going to create change. The second things is, be willing to play full out. We're creatures of habit and creatures of comfort and we're really creatures of habits that keep us in comfort. And coaching is about stepping out of that. Finding new habits and new areas where we can be excited and enriched by. So be ready and be willing to jump in and play hard and full and knowing that when you do fall apart and you do break down, and you do have aches and failures that it's part of your human experience. And you have a coach there as your partner to carry you along the way.

2:37 Any last thoughts?
I've yet to come across anybody from the small independent, you know, single mother of two to the high power executive CEO, it's hard to do this by ourselves. And the single college student who doesn't have a call to anybody but themselves, it's hard. There's a lot of plates that we are all spinning in the air and keeping track of. And it takes just enough of ourselves just to keep the status quo, let alone grow and shift and achieve our dreams and the things that we want to do. And how many people in our past history in our lives looks back and goes 'If only I'. Hiring a coach is one step closer to eliminating some, one, all, any of those 'if only I's'. That's what a coach gets to give you. Thank goodness I did.
