The National Flood Insurance Program, a division of Homeland Security is who administers most of the flood insurance in place in the United States. Although there are some private insurers that cover flood, it is extremely rare.
The odds are that if you have flood insurance that it is through NFIP. Even if your flood policy has another name on the policy it is likely that the insurance is underwritten by the NFIP. Many insurance carriers regularly sell flood insurance and private label it, but the policies are likely all from the NFIP and those all read the same for each specific product.
Flood claims are some of the most difficult typos of claims to navigate simply do to the vast amounts of damage that floods cause. When a home or business has been flooded it is commonly a total loss. Unfortunately, proving your loss can be just as painful as the loss itself. When there are thousands of saturated items lumped together and nothing looks the way that it used to it is both emotionally and physically exhausting to root through it all and attempt to set values -- all while attempting to stay within the guidelines set forth by your flood adjuster.
